Gabon Bishops condemn scandals in Schools

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Gabon has expressed disappointment on learning that some students in some of the Catholic schools in the country are engaged in drug trafficking, prostitution and homosexual activities.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the Apostolic Vicar of Libreville, Monsignor Patrick Nguéma Edou, told reporters that the people engaged in these acts are both boys and girls between the age of 14 and 18.

He noted that the mission of Catholic teaching is to offer quality education enlightened by the values of the Church, and therefore the Church cannot remain silent in the face of these scandals.

The press conference was attended by Mrs. Solange Bémengué, the head of the association of parents of Catholic Schools. She accused adults in high ranking offices of being behind the crimes that have led the children astray.
