Christ the King Parish in Kibera marked the world Mission Sunday of October 18, 2020 in a special way – an icon of Mary the Mother of Missions, that had been going around the slum since Pentecost Sunday was welcomed back to the parish.
The icon had completed a journey of 148 days moving from house to house in the parish that has about 3,000 faithful spread in five outstations namely: St Gabriel Soweto, St Daniel Comboni Shilanga, Divine Mercy Lindi, St Jude High-rise and Laini Saba.
“At baptism you were given the power to be an evangelizer around the world, from our parishes, our small Christian communities, where we work, in our businesses. Therefore, you have a task to prove that you are also missionaries,” Fr Lucas Ong’esa, the Deputy Secretary General of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) said in his homily a he led the celebrations.
