I have heard it said many times that the future of the country is in the hands of the youth.
Yes, to the extent that the older generation, the over 35s or thereabout, as per some categorization of who is a youth, will after all slowly fade away, yes the future is for the youth.
Perhaps it is after retirement that one begins to think about sunset, if unexpected departures, by God’s grace, do not happen.
But by and large there are very few young people who think about their sunset and subsequent departure from this world, away from the joys and sorrows of the moment.
As a young person you shouldn’t think about the end of your life because the present and the future belong to you; there is schooling to complete, friends to visit, trips to make, a church function to attend and so on. There is plenty to look forward to
However, as we transit from youth to adults, life expectations begin to change. As one advances in age, the future becomes limited but the present grows bigger and more important. The leaders of today begin to handover to the younger generation.
