Whenever we talk to young people on their growth and development, the constituency of the ‘other’ always comes up. Phrases like, friends, company, peer groups are wont to dominate such talks. Suffice it to say when we talk about character formation, we cannot rule out the role played by outsiders, those whom we relate with.
The old adage, show me your friends and I will tell you your character, immediately comes to mind. If you were to dig out the past of a youth whose life is in ruins, you will not fail to notice the glaring effect of bad company. However, very few young people actually believe that the company they keep can either build or ruin them.
