THE INTERVIEW

In 2017, Sr Anastacia F. Amollo, Principal, St Marys Lwak Girls High School made headlines for being the first religious sister to win the Principal of the Year Award (POYA).

If you thought she got that award by chance then you will be pleased to know that she also received a Head of State Commendation (HSC) civilian division that was personally presented to her by President Uhuru Kenyatta, and the Timeless Woman of Wonder Award that she got following the school’s excellent performance in Drama Festivals in 2016.

Arnold Neliba interviewed Sr Anastacia on what it takes to become the Principal of the year.

Who is Sr Anastacia?

My name is Sr Anastacia F. Amollo of the Franciscans Sisters of St Anne (FSSA).  I am the Principal of St Marys Lwak Girls High School in Rarieda Sub- County, Siaya County.

What has been your career progression over the years?

I am a trained a teacher. I hold B.A in Home Science and Clothing from Kenyatta University.

After training, I was posted to Koru Girls High School as a teacher. After one year, I was made deputy principal before being promoted to principal at St Barnabas Bar Korwa Girls Secondary School.

I had a break from work from 2006-2008 as I took my Masters degree at Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).  In 2009 I was posted at St Augustine Nyamonye Girls as a principal and in August 2015 I came to Lwak Girls High School as principal.
