Sirisia Catholic Parish is located on Mt Elgon, 22 kilometres from the Kenya-Uganda border. It is prone to tribal clashes especially during elections years in Kenya. Lourine Oluoch interviews 53 years old Fr Protus Michael Osyanju, who this year marks 25 years of priesthood, 13 of them spent working as the Parish Priest at Sirisia. His idea of bringing peace to the region by putting up schools and building churches closer to the people seems to have taken root. We bring you excerpts from the interview.
Who are you?
I am Fr Protus Michael Osyanju, the father in charge of Sirisia Catholic parish since 2005. The late Bishop Longinus Atundo ordained me priest on August 6, 1993 — on the feast of transfiguration — at Kibabii Catholic parish.
What made you want to become a priest?
