When the winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2019 was announced on March 24 at a ceremony held in Dubai, Bro Peter Mokaya Tabichi from Kenya stood up, dressed in a brown Franciscan habit, turning the eyes of the world not only to the first African winner of the award, but also to the religious brotherhood, that often goes unnoticed in the Church.
According to the Varkey Foundation, Bro Peter won the award because of among other things, his dedication to changing the lives of his students in many ways, including the introduction of science clubs and the promotion of peace between different ethnic groups and religions.
Lourine Oluoch caught up with Bro Peter, a teacher at Keriko Mixed Secondary School, and we bring you excerpts from The Interview.
