The fire last April at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris did severe damage to one of the most beautiful churches in the world. As if a famous citizen had died, President Macron received condolences from other world leaders. All the same, many Christians were left wondering. Why was there so much effort to save some statues? According to news reports, Father Jean-Marc Fournier, chaplain for the Paris fire brigade, risked his life.
The priest most certainly did risk his life, but not to rescue statues.
