My brother Carl was sitting in front of me. It was noon. We were on the riverbank, exhausted after rowing a canoe for a few hours. We were taking a break in the middle of a trip. We had not eaten in a long time. He pulled a piece of bread out of a bag he was carrying. He covered it with a slice of cheese. He munched on it slowly and deliberately. He looked at me and said, “That is the best food I have ever eaten in my whole life.”
It’s amazing what hunger can do to you. Perhaps something similar is happening these days because of the pandemic. You were used to going to church frequently to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Now, the church where you normally go to Mass is locked up. It’s not just your church that’s closed. They’re all closed.
