The death of Rt. Rev. Dr Cornelius Kipng’eno arap Korir of the Catholic diocese of Eldoret is a big loss to the Catholic Church in Kenya, and to the country at large.
Bishop Korir will be remembered for his peace building initiatives, and as a man of peace who espoused friendship and unity among Kenyans.
An icon of peace, he dedicated his life to preaching peaceful coexistence and harmonious relations among the warring pastoral communities in the Kerio Valley, an initiative that has seen cattle rustling and banditry reduce drastically in that region.
Even at the point of risking his life, the good bishop personally visited the war zones to quell violence perpetuated by tribal clashes that has rocked the Rift Valley since 1992.
His most enduring legacy is the 2007/2008 post-election violence when the humble bishop hosted over 10,000 Internally Displaces Persons (IDPs) at his Cathedral compound in Eldoret.
