The elderly population is defined as people aged sixty five years and over. While some people age faster than others depending on environment, currently people are living longer. The longevity is attributed to improved medical care, improved diet and nutrition as well as general wellbeing.
Some countries classify the aged at sixty five and over as the age at which point their citizens are eligible for benefits such as social security and medicare. In Kenya over 70 years are considered elderly and currently benefit from the vulnerable fund, known as Social Protection Program Fund.
